in the Lehrwerkstatt für Musikinstrumentenbau ( workshop for apprentices in instrument making )
in Bubenreuth under the direction of Emanuel Schuster.
After completing the program there, he worked for a number of years as a journeyman
in Gotthard Schuster´s well respected Bubenreuth bow making workshop.

Stylistically influenced by his long-term Master Gotthard Schuster
as well as the classical French Models of Sartory and Lamy,
he makes his bows after his personal model ideal,
which he has basically never changed over the years.
Because of the continuity in his work and quality
he was able to develop his reputation by musicians
and colleagues during his independence steadily.
Today Herbert Wanka looks back at an over 50-year-old experience in bow making.
The high acceptance of his bows by musicians in Germany
and abroad reflects the valuation of his work again.
Reason enough for him to be active with love and enthusiasm in
his passion bow making till this day.
born 1973, started his career as a bowmaker with an apprenticeship
under guidance of his father in 1992 which he has finished in 1995
with the federal winner award in the bow making craft
( highest national rating in the journeyman’s exam ).
In the connection he worked as a journeyman in his fathers workshop.
In 2000 he left the home workbench for a 6-month working stay
at The Sound Post in Toronto, Canada. More valuable experience
for his work he collected at a study seminar
with the US bowmaker William Salchow, New York.
2002 he did his master examination in bow making under
the auspices of the chamber of trade Chemnitz.
Since 2004 he leads the workshop of his father and continues the family tradition.
